Arizona-2 Arizona State Parks

I camped in a variety of places on this trip. Sometimes I camped on BLM or Forest Service land, using the iOverlander app. When we had the travel trailer I had read online about the high quality of the campgrounds in Arizona State Parks. I also learned that reservations can be reserved a year in advance, and since these parks are very popular they are all reserved. Fortunately, I had learned about the Wandering Labs website that allows one to search for cancelations, and got some campsites.

I stayed at Dead Horse Ranch State Park (not to be confused with Dead Horse Point State Park in Southern Utah), which was very nice. Good bike and hiking trails, and several lakes which proved to be great for photos.

I also saw a Bald Eagle.

Google says this is a Western Bluebird.

Catalina State Park was my favorite, primarily because it is close to the Tucson Loop set of paved bike trails.

There were also great birds, including Lesser Goldfinchs and Gila Woodpeckers.

These are from Picacho Peak State Park.

I visited my friend Art, who lives in Tucson, and we hiked in Sabino Canyon Recreation Area, where he volunteers.

I visited one other State Park, Kartchner Caverns, which will be featured in another post.

  1. As always your photographic talent is on fully display here. Your mirror images are spectacular. I shutter (a little pun there) to share any of my iPhone vacation photo when I see what you do with a camera…………never stop!
