Monument Valley

Read my Valley of the Gods post first.

After Valley of the Gods, we next camped at Gouldings, a very nice but rather expensive commercial RV park that is close to Monument Valley. My major complaint was that the campsites were rather close together, but that is common in commercial places. The restrooms were clean, and there was a nice store.

I was most impressed with the fact that they have planted trees between the campsites, and they use drip irrigation to maintain the trees.

There were even irises planted!

There were hiking trails to a nearby arch.

The campground is surrounded by rock formations, and there is a nice view of Monument Valley from the campground.

Gouldings is close to Monument Valley, and we booked an all day tour led by a Navajo guide. It was amazing!

Our Navajo Guide, Don, took us through some of the back country, not open to non-Navajos.

Our guide showed us this sheep ranch, and said that Grandma was probably out on her ATV with her sheep, and then, there she was!

We were able to hike up to see arches that few people see.

It had rained heavily the night before, and there was a water hole beyond the arch!

Beautiful Arches!

We also saw Anasazi ruins, where few people visit. Lots of pictographs and petroglyphs!

Unlike most Anasazi sites, there were abundant pottery shards.

The rocks flipped us off….

Finally, we left the back country part and went to the tourist part of Monument Valley.

And finally, our guide pointed out that the rainstorm created a reflecting pool in the road…

A great trip!!
